   Oct 19,  · While the opera was wildly popular following its premiere in , today it is all but forgotten, and its concert suite, Polka and Fugue from Schwanda the Bagpiper, is performed much more frequently than the opera itself.    Although he composed more than works, Jaromir Weinberger is remembered today chiefly for only one of them: his opera, Schwanda the Bagpiper, and then primarily for its Polka and Fugue. A child prodigy who began piano lessons at five and began composing and conducting by 10, Weinberger was born 8 January in Prague.

   The first page (Polka) is a very light and entertaining piece that is not near as complicated as the latter part of the piece. The second and third pages (Fugue) is a rhythmical chaos and tonal blur as absolutely EVEYONE in the band has the melody at some point. The melodic variations switch from key to key as the piece progresses.5/5(1).
